A group of monks in Gloucestershire have followed the lead of growing numbers of Brits and chosen to downsize their living accommodation.
The monks previously lived in Prinknash Abbey, close to the town of Painswick, which was built in the 1970s.
However, as their numbers declined to the current 12 from a peak of 60, they decided to sell up and move their original home, the smaller and less expensive St Peter's Grange just down the road.
The abbey is due to be converted into luxury flats, while a number of items from it, including a 17th century oak table, are due to be auctioned off this week.
As Abbot Francis Baird explained, living in such a large property was becoming increasingly difficult, a belief also being felt by thousands of UK homeowners who are choosing to downsize their homes in order to cope with the rising cost of living.
Those making such a move yet not wanting to auction off their possessions may want to look into
secure storage accommodation as a solution to the problems posed by less
space.
